Spring Gardening Jobs for Warwickshire Gardens

Spring arrives a week or two later on the higher clay ground around Barby and Daventry than it does in sheltered town gardens. Patience in March is usually rewarded in May.
March
Once the soil is workable rather than sticky:
- Cut back grasses and perennials left standing over winter
- Mulch borders generously with well-rotted organic matter
- Prune late-summer shrubs — buddleja, cornus, hardy fuchsia
- Divide congested perennials
April and May
The garden accelerates — so does the weed growth:
- Stake tall perennials before they need it
- Hoe weeds while they are small and the soil is dry
- Feed roses and repeat-flowering shrubs
- Plant out once the risk of a late local frost has passed, usually mid-May
