Timing matters
Spring-flowering shrubs are pruned after flowering, summer-flowering shrubs in late winter, roses according to type, and stone fruit only in the growing season to avoid disease. Getting timing right is the difference between a plant that flowers and one that sulks.
Plant health and aftercare
Pruning is followed by feeding, mulching and staking where needed, so plants recover well and put their energy into strong new growth.
