Garden Advice
How Often Should You Have a Professional Gardener?
By Paula George, RHS Qualified Gardener · · 4 min read

The honest answer is that it depends far less on the size of the garden than on how it is planted and how you want it to look.
A rough guide
- Detailed borders and formal planting: weekly through spring and summer
- Established mixed gardens: fortnightly from March to October, monthly in winter
- Simple, low-maintenance gardens: monthly, with two bigger seasonal visits
- Large country gardens: often a regular day each week or fortnight
Seasonal rhythm
Most gardens need more attention between April and July than at any other time. Reducing visits over winter — while keeping the pruning and planting work that must happen then — usually makes the best use of a budget.
